Wall Street Trader to easily brush aside rivals in Ash Wednesday Trophy feature

THE Ash Wednesday Trophy is set to take centre stage at Caymanas Park tomorrow, featuring a highly competitive field of 13 runners in the Overnight Allowance contest.

Champion Two-Year-Old Unspun from last season is among the contenders, facing off against other talented horses over 6½ furlongs (1,300m).

The Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide takes a look at each runner and their chances of winning the major share of the $1.25 million purse on offer.

1. FREEDOM STREET: (6 b g by Uncaptured – Nofashionsense) – Has shown occasional flashes of brilliance but has not won in three starts this season. Freedom Street’s past performances have been inconsistent, making him a long shot in this race. Odds: 10-1.

2. RANI BANGALA: (6 b m by Savoy Stomp – Palace Gold) – Has struggled in her last four starts, failing to win against claimers. Rani Bangala’s recent performances have been disappointing, and she is not expected to contend in this race. Note: Figure-8 off. Odds: 150-1.

3. WALL STREET TRADER (USA): (6 dk b/br g by Vancouver – Selva) – Obviously the horse to beat here. Wall Street Trader is the clear favorite, despite a disappointing run in the Mouttet Mile. He rebounded with a strong second-place finish on January 25 behind Pack Plays at 61/2 furlongs. Although he was scratched at the races on February 28, Wall Street Trader is expected to show up here in fine form and put these away with minimum fuss. Blinkers on. Odds: 4-5.

4. HUNTSMAN: (5 ch h by Key to Power – Dream Point) – Did well to reach this level but faces stiff competition here. Huntsman is not expected to contend in this race. Odds: 105-1

5. I REALISE : (6 b g by Northern Giant – Regina Royale) – Has been struggling in recent times and is unlikely to turn things around. I Realise’s form suggests he’s unlikely to contend. Odds: 100-1.

6. BANADURA : (4 b f by Casual Trick – Esperanza) – Finished a strong second behind Inspire Force at 51/2 furlongs (1,100m) on February 15 and should appreciate the added distance. Banadura is a contender to watch. Odds: 7-2.

7. BURNING HEDGE: (3 ch f by Hedge Fund – Burning Clearance) – Faces tough competition and is unlikely to win. Burning Hedge could get in the lower part of the exotics. Odds: 25-1.

8. UNSPUN (USA): (3 dk b/br c by Spun to Run – U Needa Ride) – On a three-race winning streak but faces older horses for the first time. Unspun, who is now taking orders from trainer Norman Smith, is expected to be competitive. Odds: 4-1.

9. SHEER DELIGHT (USA): (4 dk b c by Girvin – Pantyhose) – Finished fourth in his last start but is expected to be fitter here. Sheer Delight is another contender to watch here. Odds: 6-1.

10. ALLEGIANCE: (4 ch c by Midnight Hawk – Princess Geeta) – Was an impressive winner over one mile (1,600m) on February 22. Allegiance defeated competitors by 5 1/4 in 1:41.3 easily. Based on his class, talent, and running style, he could hit the board here. Allegiance is a horse to watch. Odds: 9-2.

11. FEARLESS FORCE (USA): (4 dk b/br f by Anchor Down – A Merry Song) – Although not expected to win, Fearless Force should play a prominent role here. Odds: 15-1.

12. SENSATIONAL MOVE: (5 ch h by Sensational Slam – Money Move) – Should have no problem with the added distance and could impact the outcome. Sensational Move is a contender to watch closely here. Odds: 5-2.

13. MRPS LINKS: (5 b m by Admiral Alex – Brewedtoperfection) – Can safely be bypassed. MRPS Links’s form suggests she’s unlikely to contend.

Allegiance Joseph Wellington
