Jamaican among two arrested in New York for stealing and reselling Taylor Swift concert tickets
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A Jamaican is among two arrested and charged with second-degree grand larceny, first and fourth-degree computer tampering, and fourth-degree conspiracy in New York in connection with the theft of some 1,000 concert tickets to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour and other major events.
It is alleged that the tickets were sold for thousands of dollars.
Charged are 20-year-old Tyrone Rose, of Kingston, Jamaica, and 31-year-old Shamara Simmons, of Queens, New York.
The two were arrested last week Thursday in connection to the scheme.
According to a report by an American news company, USA Today, the two are connected to a larger scheme involving people working in Kingston, Jamaica, for a third-party contractor partnered with StubHub, a ticket exchange and resale company.
Reports are that the contractors stole the ticket URLs after which they emailed them to Rose and Simmons in Queens Borough, New York. Rose and Simmons reportedly then downloaded the tickets and sold them on StubHub for a substantial price.
The two accused could face a sentence of up to 15 years imprisonment for the crime.
