Promoted Racing United into top six after win over Waterhouse

KINGSTON, Jamaica— Promoted Racing United forced their way into the playoffs spot in the Jamaica Premier League after beating Waterhouse FC 3-0 in their third-round game played at Drewsland Complex on Thursday.

Racing United were winning their 10th game and extended their unbeaten run to 12 games as they improved to 41 points to move into sixth place ahead of Waterhouse FC, who are on 38 points.

Kadeen Young scored in the 27th minute to give Racing United the lead, Nickyle Ellis doubled the advantage in the 64th minute, and Damaine Smith added a third six minutes into time added at the end of the second half.

Meanwhile, second-placed Arnett Gardens cut into Mt Pleasant FA’s lead after beating 10-man Dunbeholden FC 4-1, and third-placed Montego Bay United held off Vere United 2-1 despite playing with 10 men from the 56th minute.

Both Arnett Gardens and Montego Bay United swept the series against their opponents this season, winning all three games.

Dunbeholden FC were reduced to 10 players from the sixth minute when Danian Binns was sent off, and Arnett Gardens took full advantage when Shai Smith gave them the lead in the 28th minute after he had scored an added-time equaliser in their 2-2 draw against Racing United on Monday.

Warner Brown, who also scored against Racing United, scored his 18th goal of the season when he made the score 2-0 in the 48th minute.

Nakeel Wright came off the bench to cut the deficit to one goal when he scored for Dunbeholden FC in the 87th minute, but Arnett Gardens hit back with two quick goals in time added.

Fabian Reid made it 3-1 in the first minute of time added, and Jermy Nelson added a fourth two minutes later.

Montego Bay United jumped out to a 2-0 lead against Vere United at Wembley Centre of Excellence with goals from Jourdain Fletcher in the fourth minute and Johann Weatherly in the 38th minute.

They were, however, reduced to 10 players after central defender Josiah Trimmingham was sent off in the 56th minute, and two minutes later, Tareek Magee scored for Vere United, cutting the deficit in half.

Harbour View inched away from the relegation zone with a 3-0 win over Chapelton Maroons, who had won their first two games against the East Kingston club this season.

Rohan Brown scored a double, giving Harbour View the lead in the 31st minute; Tryvone Reid made it 2-0 in the 65th minute, and Brown got his second in the 79th minute.
