Grange hails Owen James for outstanding work in the print and electronic media

Kingston, Jamaica — Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange says she is heartbroken after learning of news about the passing of prominent journalist Owen James.

“He certainly made his mark and will be remembered for his outstanding journalistic accomplishments both in the print media where he started his career and in the electronic media where he further enhanced his craft,” Grange said.

“He started at The Gleaner eventually becoming editor for its sister newspaper, The Star. Owen brought something special to business reporting with his programmes such as ‘The Business Day’, ‘The Business Review’, and ‘On a Personal Note’ on television. He was a trailblazer.”

Grange noted that James’ dedication to fair and fearless reporting on the financial sector extended to him forming his independent news organisation covering the Jamaica’s financial landscape.

“Owen James was generous of spirit and willing to mentor and guide younger journalists. His memory no doubt will encourage the colleagues he leaves behind and inspire the next generation of journalists to uphold the highest standards of journalism, motivating them to never falter in their pursuit of truth. He will be remembered as a pioneer in business journalism who made a lasting impact on the local media landscape,” Grange added.

She also extended condolences to his family, colleagues, friends and members of the journalistic fraternity.
