Nearly two decades after its debut, the dancehall anthem returns next Friday with a remastered release — just as a new viral dance trend brings it back to the spotlight.

One of the most well-known dance moves ever to come out of Jamaica is the relentless Dutty Wine. Comprised of an outlandish, whiplash-inducing set of moves, it was unleashed upon the world in the early 2000s and popularised by the song of the same name by sound clash veteran Tony Matterhorn in 2006.

In 2025, VP Records is proud to shine the musical spotlight on this anthem once again.

A couple of prominent Jamaican dancers claim to be the originator of the Dutty Wine, including Mad Michelle, 2003’s Dancehall Queen competition winner; and Dyema “Attitude” Grey, a trendsetting dancer in Montego Bay, St James.

At its genesis BBC Caribbean reported: “The Dutty Wine, a new frenzied dance which originated in Jamaica, has as many tongues wagging as it has necks twirling. It’s the neck twirling — or attempts at doing that — by mainly young women, which has many people worried.”

In recent times the track has continued to be popular and has found a new global audience on social media.

Now, in 2025, there is even a brand new, completely different dance to accompany Matterhorn’s
Dutty Wine going viral on TikTok — proving that the track has lost none of its potency in the last 19 years.

This new remastered edition and Dolby Atmos mix for 2025 includes the uncut raw version, clean mix, and instrumental piece.

It will be available on all digital platforms on March 22.
