Williams gleeful after opening Senior Cup with maiden double ton

St Mary Cricket Association’s (CA’s) Alwyn Williams says his maiden double century, which lifted them to an innings and 70-run win over G C Foster College, represented a “dream start” to the Stewart’s Automotive-sponsored 2025 Michael Holding Senior Cup.

Scores: G C Foster 200 & 130; St Mary 400-3 decl.

The left-hand opener hammered 23 fours and 19 sixes in his unbeaten 241 which came off only 152 deliveries.

“It’s a dream start for me, scoring my first double hundred and batting the team into a commanding position. We won the game outright and that’s the best possible start to any season,” Williams told the Jamaica Observer after the two-day match at Jack’s River.

“My confidence is high and also, the team is in good spirits so we’re looking forward to a lovely season.”

Williams, who has first class cricket experience with Jamaica’s senior team, was supported by former national Under-17 representative Aan Ennis (59 not out).

Their knocks formed the backbone of the home team’s 400-3 declared in reply to G C Foster’s 200 all out. Nkala Tracey top-scored with 77 not out for G C Foster, while St Mary CA’s Tyrone Daley captured six wickets for 54 runs.

Trailing by 200 runs, G C Foster could only make 130 when they batted a second time. Javon Nembhard made 62 against Marlon Byfield who took 3-15.

Elsewhere, Randre Christie’s century inspired Clarendon CA to defeat visitors St Catherine CA by an innings and 66 runs at Jamalco.

Scores: Clarendon 216-9 decl; St Catherine CA 100 & 50-9.

At Mona Bowl, the hosts UWI conceded first-innings honours to St Catherine Cricket Club (CC) in the drawn encounter.

Jamaica senior team opener Carlos Brown and Andre Henry struck 161 and 106, respectively, for St Catherine CC.

Scores: UWI 210 & 117-3; St Catherine 381-5 decl.

At Nelson Oval, the hosts Lucas CC were beaten by an innings an 57 runs by next door neighbours Kensington CC. Big-hitting opener Leroy Lugg notched 108 for Kensington.

Scores: Lucas 107 & 151; Kensington 315.

At Sabina Park, the home team Kingston CC overwhelmed Boys’ Town CC by an innings and four runs.

Scores: Kingston 284-6 decl; Boys’ Town 139-9 & 141.

At Manchester High School, visitors St Elizabeth CA pulled off a three-wicket victory over Manchester CA. Pace bowling all-rounder Andre McCarthy claimed 7-12 in the first innings for St Elizabeth, while wicketkeeper/batsman Pajay Nelson struck a second-innings century for Manchester.

Scores: Manchester 71-9 & 287; St Elizabeth 199 & 160-7.

At Paradise, middle-order batsman Tavi Spencer blasted a 106-ball 172 to lead Westmoreland CA to a nine-wicket win over St James CA.

Scores: Westmoreland 256-9 & 43-1; St James 140 & 157.

At Port Rhoades Sports Club, visitors Portland CA edged first-innings honours in the drawn clash with St Ann CA.

Scores: St Ann 209 & 200-8 decl; Portland 224 & 145-4.

At Springfield, Jordon Allen’s century pushed Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) to an innings and 128-run win over hosts St Thomas CA.

Scores: JDF 388-6 decl; St Thomas 141 & 119.

Melbourne CC, on the back of Renaldo Ingram’s hundred, comfortably beat Kingston and St Andrew CA by an innings and 78 runs.

Scores: KSACA 107 & 119; Melbourne 304-2 decl.

After the preliminary round, the Senior Cup, which is organised by the Jamaica Cricket Association, is scheduled to stage quarter-final and semi-final matches in May before its culmination in June.
