Red Bull lights up Jamaica Carnival with Chilean paraglider
The sky became the stage at this year’s Carnival in Jamaica, as Red Bull took the celebration to thrilling new heights. In a historic first for the island, thousands of revellers experienced first-hand world-renowned Chilean acrobatic paraglider Victor “Bicho”Carrera as he soared above the road march in an exhilarating aerial spectacle.
With thousands gathered for a final fete in the streets, all eyes turned skyward as Carrera soared above the revelry in a breathtaking acrobatic flight. He returned later in the evening for a second aerial showcase at the Big Wall After-Party, illuminating the night sky with twists, turns, and signature flight manoeuvres that have made him a standout on the global paragliding stage.
“I was first introduced to paragliding by my father and did my first flight at 11 years old. I’ve been paragliding all over the world, but being here in Jamaica was definitely one of the most challenging but also the most memorable experiences! It’s my first time here in Jamaica, and flying over the Carnival, seeing the huge crowd in costume and all their reactions — it was incredible,” Carrera expressed with excitement.
At just 29 years old, Carrera — who hails from the coastal town of Maitencillo, Chile — has already reshaped the global paragliding scene. Gifted his first paraglider at just three years old, he’s spent his life mastering the skies, claiming world titles, and redefining what’s possible in acrobatic paragliding. This debut Jamaican flight marked another daring chapter in his already legendary career.
Sharing what goes into making a flight like this happen, Carrera explained, “It requires a lot of preparation and practice to be able to fly in different situations all over the world — we have to scout the landing and take off areas for several different factors like trees, power lines, the terrain, etc, and we monitor the weather super-closely. When all those align, we can have an amazing flight like we did today!”
With this first-of-its-kind aerial debut, Red Bull brought a fresh perspective to the magic of Jamaica Carnival, uniting sport, culture, and celebration.
