Who’ll reign supreme?
13 runners compete in Yvonne Mattis Cup
The $1.25-million Yvonne Mattis Cup, an Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over 9 furlongs (1,800m), is set to be the highlight of tomorrow’s nine-race card at Caymanas Park.
Here’s an in-depth analysis of each runner and their chances of winning:
1. CAPTAIN SPARROW: (4 b c by Savoy Stomp – Rackam’s Mistress) – After a disappointing fourth place behind Immeasurable Joy on May 3 over one mile, Captain Sparrow steps up in distance to compete here. It will be very difficult to see him win this race but given his pedigree, he might surprise many with a strong performance.
2. SONNY T AND CHIPPY: (6 b m by Savoy Stomp – Triniket Box) – This mare looks well-held here. Sonny T and Chippy is not a contender.
3. POWER FROM ABOVE: (5 ch m by Key to Power – Blufield) – Despite a dry spell in recent starts, Power From Above is expected to thrive on the galloping course. Her connections are hopeful she’ll turn her fortunes around and put in a good performance.
4. RAINSVILLE: (6 gr g by Casual Trick – Fifityshadesofray) – Rainsville has been quiet lately but steps down in class for this race. This could be the opportunity he needs to claim victory.
5. DIVINE FORCE (USA): (5 b h by Alternation – Dance America) – Unfortunately, Divine Force might struggle to keep up with the pace and could find himself left behind.
6. FEARLESS SOUL: (5 ch h by Soul Warrior – Rumble) – With consistent recent performances, Fearless Soul is certainly capable of pulling off an upset. He’s definitely in the mix.
7. GIRVANO (USA): (3 b c by Girvin – Summer in Midway) – Coming off three consecutive wins, Girvano has momentum on his side. Although two of those wins were decided in the stewards’ room, his recent form and suitability to longer distances make him a live contender.
8. RHYTHM BUZZ: (5 b h by Buzz Nightmare – River Rhythm) – After a strong second-place finish over one mile on April 26, Rhythm Buzz seems comfortable over the 9-furlong distance. He could very well land the victory.
9. SISTREN TREASURE (USA): (5 b m by Brethren – Katira) – Sistren Treasure appears to have lost her way and might need a bit of luck to find her form and compete effectively.
10. KWAKU: (7 b h by Casual Trick – Darlin) – Given his current form and the competition, Kwaku doesn’t seem to have a realistic chance of winning.
11. WHIZZ KIDD: (5 b h by Northern Giant – Maken Joy) – It might be best to leave Whizz Kidd out of your calculations for this race.
12. MR SENATOR: (5 rn h by Natural Selection – Khadiliah) – Mr Senator doesn’t seem to be a major player in this race.
13. TIGERAMEDAT (USA): (5 b h by Danish Dynaformer – Main Asset) – With the competition looking strong, it might be wise to approach Tigeramedat with caution.
Each runner has its strengths and weaknesses, and the outcome will depend on various factors. The Yvonne Mattis Cup promises to be an exciting contest with plenty of possibilities.
