Richard Smith taking the reins as head coach at KC
The Jamaica Observer has been reliably informed that Richard Smith has been appointed as the new head coach of ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ Athletics Championships title holders, Kingston College (KC).
Smith, an Edith Dalton James High old boy, is set to replace Leaford Grant, who will be stepping down at the end of the season. Grant has led KC to five Boys’ Championships titles in the last six years, establishing a dominant legacy at the North Street-based institution.
When contacted, KC’s principal Dave Myrie said he would not be commenting on the matter at this time, but noted that an official announcement would be made at a later date.
It is also understood that Jeremy Delisser has been appointed as Smith’s assistant while Hugh Powell is strategic consultant.
Smith, who has been at the Institution for the past 13 years, is currently the head of the Physical Education department. The 39-year-old, who also coaches the school’s 400m athletes, has guided KC to four consecutive Championship of America 4x400m titles at the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
