Ras Emmanuel teams with Little Robert in tribute to Rastafari
Longtime friends and fellow roots artistes Ras Emmanuel and Little Robert pay tribute to their Rastafari faith on Jah A My Provider, a song co-produced by Lawrence Gowdie and Anthony Redrose.
Released in March, it is their first song together.
“Little Robert is a great singer and a friend. He told me it was time for us to do a song together, so I came up with the concept of Jah A My Provider and told him to write (a song) to it,” said Ras Emmanuel.
“Rastafari plays a major role in my spiritual life. Rastafari gives me hope, it’s because of Haile Selassie I, that I find Yesus Christos, Jesus Christ,” he added.
The veteran singer, who is based in Newark, New Jersey, hails from Central Village, located on the outskirts of Spanish Town. He cut his musical teeth there on sound systems, and listening to artistes like Papa San and Lieutenant Stitchie, who were mainstays of the Spanish Town music scene.
Little Robert is also a seasoned recording artiste. His songs include Downtown, which was done for Gowdie, who is Ras Emmanuel’s brother, and a cover of Tyrone Taylor’s Little Cottage In Negril.
Jah A My Provider is Little Robert’s latest collaboration. He previously teamed with Luciano on King Selassie, and Capleton on In My Dreams.
