St Ann youth farmer wins sustainable farming competition
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Isratech Jamaica handed over farming supplies valued at more than $300,000 to Shane Lyn Cook, the winner of the 2025 Sustainable Farming Competition, on Tuesday.
The handover happened at his property, Tai Lyn’s Farm, located in St Ann.
The competition invited farmers across Jamaica to submit photos or videos demonstrating their use of sustainable farming methods. Shane Lyn Cook stood out for his innovative practices.
According to Cook, sustainable farming practices not only benefits the environment, but also saves him time and resources, including financial and human resources.
Cook is also a beneficiary of the 4-H Rural Youth Economic Empowerment Programme (RYEEP), the St Ann 2025 Youth Farmer and a student at the College of Agriculture, Science and Education (CASE).
As the grand prize winner, Cook received a water storage tank, solar pump and a set of irrigation items, all designed to increase productivity and support environmentally responsible agriculture.
“This initiative was designed not only to reward our farmers, but to highlight the importance of sustainable agricultural practices in preserving Jamaica’s natural resources,” said Patricia Grant, marketing manager at Isratech Jamaica. “Shane Lyn Cook’s entry truly embodies the future of farming in Jamaica, and we are proud to support his efforts.”
