MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Opposition Senator Peter Bunting says if he is returned as the country’s national security minister there will be accountability against corruption.
“If I and I become the minister of national security again… certain man going to wear short pants,” he told People’s National Party supporters at the party’s Mandeville divisional conference on Sunday at Manchester High.
“I can prophecise. Last year when I told them the SPARK would be a Chinese contractor get it dem seh a foolishness me a talk, but let me prophecise again,” he said.
Bunting, a former national security minister and Member of Parliament, warned that corruption hinders the country’s development.
“When you say corruption people don’t understand the result or the impact of the corruption,” he said while pointing to its effect.
“The result is a lack of investment, low productivity, low wages, no growth, poor health infrastructure and we shame every time we go over Mandeville Regional Hospital and see what John Junor hotel come to where you can’t even get toilet paper sometimes,” said Bunting.
The former Manchester Central MP endorsed Mandeville Mayor Donovan Mitchell for the constituency as the PNP prepares for the upcoming parliamentary election.
Bunting is the PNP’s aspirant in Manchester Southern.
