Police seize 16 illegal guns, ammo at Kingston warehouse
KINGSTON, Jamaica – A joint operation between the Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA) and the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) resulted in the seizure of 16 guns and over 250 rounds of ammunition at a warehouse on Marcus Garvey Drive in Kingston on Wednesday.
Reports are that about 10:27 am, the JCA was conducting a routine security screening when anomalies were detected with a shipment. The FNID was alerted, and during a thorough examination, 16 pistols, 259 rounds of ammunition and 25 magazines were discovered concealed in the shipment.
Director of FNID, Acting Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Patrae Rowe said this seizure is another reminder of the continued work being done to secure the Jamaican borders against illegal items.
“Every illegal firearm removed from circulation represents lives that are saved and puts us a step closer towards a safer Jamaica,” said Rowe.
“We will continue to pursue individuals involved in the trafficking of firearms and narcotics to further enhance the safety and security of citizens,” he added.
