Napoli in pole position to win Serie A title

Four teams, but only one can win the Serie A title today. Leaders Napoli are at home to midtable Cagliari, while second-placed and defending champions Inter Milan are away to red-hot Como, hoping and praying that somehow, someway, Napoli will fail to win at home, and they would win a second Scudetto title in three seasons.

Event # 1 – SERIE A – Como vs Inter Milan – 1:45PM

One point behind leaders Napoli, defending champions Inter Milan travel to Como, ahead of a dramatic Friday evening Serie A finale, as they hope to overhaul Napoli and retain the title they won last season. However, even a win might not be enough for the defending champions as Napoli will be playing at home simultaneously against a Cagliari side that has nothing to play for. Since former Arsenal star, Cesc Fabregas took over as head coach of Como there has been a marked transformation of the team. They currently sit tenth and will finish tenth in the standing regardless of the result against Inter Milan. With that said, Como will be keen to maintain their impressive run of form having won six of their last eight matches. Most notably, Como has taken points from six of the current top eight sides, Inter Milan not included.

Inter Milan head into the final match day as underdogs to successfully defend their title, aware that leaders Napoli are at home to a mid-table Cagliari side that is not motivated to win. Inter Milan’s only hope to retain their title is if Napoli suffers an unlikely defeat, or draw, at home and they beat one of the most in-form sides in the division, Como. With that said, Inter Milan’s form away from home have been formidable, as they have won ten times, drawn five times, and have lost just 3 matches. This type of away form has been instrumental in their title challenge, allowing them to maintain the pressure on leaders Napoli throughout the season. However, it might be a case of a little too late for the current scudetto champions, if as expected Napoli beat Cagliari at home.

Key Stats

• Como – Como are unbeaten in their last five matches, winning four and drawing one.

• Inter Milan – Inter Milan have scored two or more goals in each of their last three matches.

• Both sides – Inter Milan have won all previous four meetings against Como, including the reverse fixture earlier this season 2-0.

The betting tip: Inter Milan win.

Event # SERIE A – Napoli vs Cagliari – 1:45 PM

League leaders Napoli will host midtable Cagliari at home today, Friday May 23, fully aware that victory against a Cagliari side who has nothing play for means they will secure a second Serie A title in three years. And the Napolean’s will be confident of securing the win at home where they have been unbeaten since early December and have scored twice in each of their last five home matches. With that said, Napoli have been the most consistent side this season, especially at home, with thirteen wins, three draws, and just two defeats, which underlines their dominance at home.

Cagliari were expected to be battling relegation this season, but they found a way to survive and secure their top flight status for next season. They enter this match with nothing to play for as they sit 14th in the league and defeated Venezia last weekend at home, which was a much-needed win after two straight defeats in their previous two league matches. Cagliari’s home form has been the reason they have managed to avoid relegation, as their away form doesn’t inspire much confidence, having won just three games, drawn five times, and suffered ten defeats, which highlights their struggles on the road this season.

Key Stats

• Napoli – Napoli have kept a clean sheet in five of their last six league games and are unbeaten at home since early December.

• Cagliari – Cagliari have lost two of their last three matches and four of their last six games.

• Both sides – Napoli have won three of the last five head-to-head meetings, including the reverse fixture earlier this season by a 4-0 scoreline.

The betting tip: Napoli win.
