Barracks Road and Chetwood reach U-13 semis
ST JAMES, Jamaica — Former champions Barracks Road Primary and Chetwood Primary both advanced to the semi-finals in the St James Football Association /Victoria Mutual Foundation Under 13 competition on Wednesday at WesPow Park.
Both teams had quarterfinal games that went to extra time resulting in wins over Irwin Primary and Fairfield International Academy respectively.
After playing out a 1-1 tie in regulation 60 minutes, Barracks Road scored in each half of extra time to beat Irwin Primary 3-1.
Irwin Primary initially took the lead over the favoured Barracks Road when Rohan Gardner scored in the 23rd minute before Kyle Stainrod equalised minutes later.
Barracks Road took over in extra-time with Rasheem Trought giving them the lead just before the end of the first period of extra time and Jacquan Thompson scoring a third goal early in the second period.
The game was called off after an altercation which saw Irwin Primary’s goalkeeper Nickalia Hines being sent off.
Chetwood Primary on the other hand, outscored Fairfield International 3-2 after they were tied 2-2 after regulation.
Tyquan Davis initially gave Chetwood the lead in the 14th minute but Dyllon Troupe equalised with a free kick in the 22nd minute.
Porter restored Chetwood Primary’s lead in the 46th minute but once against Fairfield International drew level when Aiden Epstein scored from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute.
Chetwood Primary were not to be denied however as Porter scored the winner on a swift counter attack six minutes into extra time after Fairfield International had forced three straight corners.
The semi-finalists will join two-time defending champions Corinaldi Avenue Primary and Howard Cooke Primary in the semi-finals set for Tuesday, for a place in the final that has been rescheduled to be played on June 3rd.
Corinaldi Primary will meet Barracks Road Primary in the first game set to start at 10:00am followed by Howard Cooke Primary against Chetwood Primary in the second game. All games are set for Wes Pow Park.
