#UnitedInExcellence

SO readers, for years, have been privy to the Sagicor Group Jamaica Corporate Awards, a snazzy event held annually to celebrate top performers. This format is replicated across the Caribbean, United States, and Canada, as each business/territory hosts similar ceremonies. The top achievers from each award are then chosen to represent their territory at the Group Annual Awards, hosted by Sagicor’s parent company, Sagicor Financial Company Ltd, at a new location each year.

This year’s staging took place on Tuesday, May 20, as top achievers across the Sagicor Group of Companies jetted in to Jamaica for the ceremony hosted, under the dazzling theme United in Excellence: The Gold Standard, at the AC Hotel Kingston.

“Now Jamaican Sagicorians know me very well, so before I go any further, I want them to join me in extending a warm, Jamaican welcome to those who are here from other parts of the Caribbean, the USA, and Canada, and those joining us online… There are persons gathered here from 10 countries across Sagicor’s operations — all converged to celebrate excellence at its highest,” shared the evening’s compère Jennifer “Jenny Jenny” Small as she opened the formalities.

Guests had previously heard from 13-year-old Lauren Campbell, who delivered the Jamaican National Anthem with gusto, saw Sagicor stars shining bright in the ‘One World’ video montage, and were left hanging on to Sagicor Life Jamaica Ltd Manager, Distribution Channel poet Everard Smith’s every word during his spoken-word performance. Welcome remarks, beamed from Canada by Sagicor Financial Company Ltd President & CEO Andre Mousseau, followed.

The entertainment package also included Sagicor Life Grenada Sales Advisor and recording artiste Sonika McKie covering Gloria Estefan’s 1996 hit Reach and a spirited iteration of the Ashe Company’s Caribbean Cabaret.

The awards ceremony saw Sagicorians winning in the Outstanding Advisor categories: Rookie of the Year; Leading Advisor/Producer — Persistency/Conservation; Leading Advisor — Cases; and Leading Advisor/Producer (API/Net API/FYC). There were also Top Administrative Awards: Group Pioneer of the Year; Group Contributor of the Year; Sagicorian Employee of the Year; and Sagicorian Manager of the Year. The highlight of the evening was the announcement of double winners of the Sagicorian Employee of the Year Theresa Emmanuel (Eastern Caribbean and Belize) and Chavelle Wellington-Grindley (Jamaica) and Contributor of the Year Shakera Beckles (Barbados) and Sashakay Clarke (Jamaica).
