Dispute over Dennis Chung escalates
Officials of the island’s two main political parties drew hard lines in the sand on Monday as the dispute over the appointment of Dennis Chung as head of the Financial Investigations Division (FID) intensified.
Leaders and supporters of the Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) took to National Heroes’ Circle, in front of the Ministry of Finance, with a message that the future of Jamaica is at stake if Chung’s appointment is not rescinded.
But a small group of Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporters, who gathered meters from the PNP protest, were adamant that Chung should remain and the leadership of the ruling party’s public relations team used a hurriedly called media briefing to declare that the Administration of Prime Minister Andrew Holness would not be bullied into taking action which would represent a breach of due process.
