Student arrested after robbery, firearm seizure in St Andrew
KINGSTON, Jamaica—A student was one of two women arrested following the seizure of an illegal firearm on Barbican Road in St Andrew on Wednesday.
The women, whose names police have declined to release as they have not been charged, were reportedly held following a robbery in the Corporate Area.
They were detained as they waited in the drive-thru of a fast-food restaurant in Liguanea, St Andrew.
Reports were that around 9:00 pm, police received information that a car, which was involved in a robbery, was seen at the intersection of Hope Road, Old Hope Road and Barbican Road.
The vehicle was later intercepted at the drive-thru, and the women taken into custody. They and the vehicle were searched, and a large sum of cash was found.
During further checks at the women’s home, a silver and black Taurus .38 Special revolver and six .38 cartridges were found under a chest of drawers. A bag containing money and bank receipts was also found.
The women were arrested, and the weapon and money were seized for processing.
