After a successful tour of the United Kingdom in April and May, Toots And The Maytals featuring Leba Hibbert are eyeing their second trek of the United States, possibly in late summer.

The band, which carries on the legacy of founder Toots Hibbert, debuted in that country in late 2023. They performed in South Carolina, Virginia, New York, New Jersey, and New Hampshire.

For their second trip to the US, Leba told the Jamaica Observer they are looking at an area where her father had a massive following.

“We are in negotiations with our booking agents, Universal Attraction Agency, about taking on the West Coast, so we’ll see how that goes,” she said.

Toots Hibbert, the legendary singer-songwriter, died in September 2020 at age 77. Along with Desmond Dekker and Jimmy Cliff, he was instrumental in introducing Jamaican music culture to the UK, with songs like Israelites, Wonderful World, Beautiful People, and Pressure Drop.

‘Featuring Leba Hibbert’ made stops in Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cambridge, and London.

The Maytals band includes keyboardist Gregory Palmer, who toured with Toots; drummer Arlando Bolt, who played with Gregory Issacs; guitarist Leebert “Gibby” Morrison, best known for his work with the 809 Band, Peter Tosh and Mutabaruka; and bass guitarist Danny “Axeman” Thompson, who toured with Bunny Wailer and Ini Kamoze.

Leba, who toured for many years with her father as part of his 54-46 harmony group, spoke about preserving his vast catalogue.

“It is very important for me and the family to carry on his legacy. It would be a shame not to, because he did all this work and Daddy has a great fan base that supports Toots And The Maytals,” she said.
