Jordan Scott wins back-to-back Diamond League triple jumps

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jordan Scott and Ackera Nugent wrapped up their pre-JAAA National Championships schedule with outstanding performances at Friday’s Meeting de Paris, a Diamond League meet at Stade Charlety in the French capital.

Scott won back-to-back Diamond League men’s triple jump events with 17.27m (0.5m/s), while Nugent ran a season’s best 12.30 seconds (0.7m/s) for third in the 100m hurdles.

Both are expected to compete at next weekend’s National Senior Championships at the National Stadium for places on the Jamaican team to the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, in September.

It was the third Diamond League win for Scott who tied his second longest mark ever. He had also jumped 17.27m at a Diamond League meet in China in late April.

Burkina Faso’s Hugues Fabrice Zango was second with a season’s best 17.21m (1.8m/s), with France’s Thomas Gogois taking third with his season’s best 17.11m (1.3m/s).

Nugent bettered her previous season’s best of 12.34 seconds as American Grace Stark set a personal best and meeting record 12.21 seconds, erasing the 12.32 seconds set in 1992 by Russia’s Lyudmila Narozhileno, while world record holder Tobi Amusan of Nigeria was second with a season’s best 12.24 seconds.
