‘This government has done an amazing job’ says Holness
CLARENDON, Jamaica — Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has demonstrated its capability of fixing the country’s problems.
“These conditions have been with us for a very long time. Many of these conditions that we now face in our local communities with road and water have been with us from the 90s,” Holness said Saturday night at the JLP’s Clarendon North West constituency conference.
Holness, who at the event endorsed JLP representative in the constituency Warren Newby, suggested that the party’s fight for a third consecutive term in government will not be easy. He acknowledged that there has been some growing frustration among Jamaicans, but said the government has demonstrated that it can “fix it.”
The prime minister cited the refurbishment of the Cornwall Regional Hospital among the infrastructural developments and the lowering of the debt-to-GDP ratio to a more than 40-year low among the gains in the economy. He also noted the significant decrease in the murder rate, which is down 44 per cent year-to-date compared to the corresponding period in 2024.
Holness acknowledged that though they have made a lot of improvements, the government has a far way to go.
“ We agree, we know and we are working towards perfection but if you compare it to where we were and where we are coming from you would see that this government has done an amazing job in improving citizen security and safety in this country,” said Holness.
