Maroon Queen bats for roots reggae
Recording artiste and producer Maroon Queen hopes that her latest track Weed Baby, featuring Dan Gio, will be well received from fans of authentic roots reggae music, globally.
It will be released today, Friday, June 27.
“I hope [that] Weed Baby resonates deeply with listeners around the world, especially those who appreciate roots-reggae, natural healing, and conscious living. My goal is to continue using my music as a tool for cultural upliftment and spiritual connection. I also hope this track expands my global audience and opens new doors for collaboration and performance,” she told the Jamaica Observer.
She added: “The track is a soulful reggae meditation dedicated to the sacred herb. It celebrates the healing, spiritual, and cultural role that ganja plays, especially in Rastafari and herbalist traditions. It’s more than a song about smoking; it’s a vibration of liberation, inner peace, and the connection between nature and consciousness.”
Her first time collaborating with Dan Gio, Maroon Queen is already encouraged by the positive reviews she has been receiving ahead of its official release.
“The early feedback from selectors, fans, and fellow artistes have been beautiful. People are really connecting with the message, the authenticity, and the vibration. Some say it’s the kind of track that brings them peace — and for me, that means everything,” Maroon Queen said.
The entertainer, who is also a fashion designer, cultural advocate, and businesswoman, has struck an effective balance among her different roles as a creative.
“In 2024 I rebranded my fashion line to BQ Fashion Line, formerly known as Black Queen & King’s Wear. It’s a bold Afrocentric brand that promotes black pride, African royalty, and regal self-expression. I’m also the founder and operator of a model agency, helping to develop and showcase talent that reflects our heritage and beauty. Additionally, I work as a promoter, curating events that fuse fashion, music, and culture into one powerful experience,” she explained.
In the meantime, Maroon Queen is readying other projects that coincide with her brand.
“I’m preparing for the release of more singles and visuals, and eventually my upcoming project Africa Mi Deya. Alongside the music, I continue to grow my BQ Fashion Line and expand my brand globally — not just musically, but culturally and spiritually. I also host my annual Africa Mi Deya Cultural Show, a major event covered by national media, which celebrates African identity, music, art, and empowerment. It’s one of the most meaningful things I do, and I’m committed to making it bigger each year,” she continued.
