Jamaica earns first gold medal at Junior CASA
Captain Sanjana Nallapati teamed up with vice-captain Mehar Trehan to give Jamaica its first gold medal at the Junior Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Championship at the South Sound Squash Club in the Cayman Islands.
The number one-seeded doubles pair successfully defended their tile against Barbados in an exciting battle of skill, fitness, and excellent team co-ordination on the court.
Earlier in the squash championship, Trehan copped a silver medal against the dangerous Eboni Atherley of Barbados in an epic matchup. In the match, Atherley won three games while Trehan won two. It signified the first time that Atherley was ever losing a game at the junior championship.
Nallapati got the bronze medal in a straight sets 3-0 victory against Gabrielle Turchiaro in a commanding performance.
The Jamaicans have three medals — a gold, a silver, and a bronze.
The mixed doubles team of Ethan Miller and Elle Wilson lost their semi-final match to Guyana’s pair of Louis Silva and Avery Arjoon.
The boys team, enduring a challenging time at the championship, is still seeking to get into medal contention.
The teams are currently competing for the team championship title to close out the competition for this year.
