Kerrica Hill lowers PB in Switzerland

Two-time World Under-20 Championships gold medallist Kerrica Hill ran a personal best of 12.54 seconds (0.1m/s) to place second in the 100m hurdles at the Luzern Grand Prix in Luzern, Switzerland, on Tuesday.

Hill, who celebrated her 20th birthday in March, and placed fourth at the National Senior Championships last month, lowered her previous best 12.69 seconds set then, and moved up seven places on the all-time Jamaican ranking to 12th.

Hill, who won the event at the 2022 World Under 20 championships in Cali, Colombia, and retained it last year in Lima, Peru, is the fourth fastest Jamaican in the event so far thisyear.

Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji won the event in 12.49 seconds, with American Rayniah Jones third with 12.86 seconds.

Jonielle Smith won the women’s 100m at the same meet while there were podium finishes for national champion Rusheen McDonald, Natoya Goule-Toppin, and Hansle Parchment.

Olympic Games and World Athletics Championships silver medallist Shanieka Ricketts was third in the women’s triple jump at the Brescia Grand Prix in Italy.

Smith, who was a finalist in the women’s 100m at the National Championships, ran 11.12 seconds (0.0m/s) to beat Italy’s Zaynab Dosso (11.24 seconds), and Camille Rutherford of the Bahamas was third in 11.31 seconds.

Kemba Nelson was fifth in the 100m in 11.36 seconds and also clocked 23.43 seconds in 200m.

McDonald was second in the men’s 400m, running 45.30 seconds, finishing behind Trinidad and Tobago’s Jereem Richards, who won with 45.11 seconds, with Hungary’s Patrik Simon Enyingi placing third in 45.39 seconds.

Goule-Toppin was third in a closely contested women’s 800m, running 1:59.80 minutes as France’s Clara Liberman won in 1:59.25, with Poland’s Angelika Sarna taking second in 1:59.39.

Parchment ran a season’s best 13.26 seconds (0.1m/s) for third in the 110m hurdles as Jason Joseph set a Swiss national record 13.07 seconds, followed by American Trey Cunningham in second with 13.22 seconds.

National champion Orlando Bennett was fifth in 13.36 seconds, with Tyler Mason seventh in 13.41 seconds.

Christopher Taylor was third in the men’s 200m, winning his section in 20.49 seconds (-0.2m/s) as Zimbabwe’s Makanakaishe Charamba won in 20.14 seconds (0-.2m/s), and Switzerland’s Timothé Mumenthaler was second in 20.36 seconds.

At the World Athletics Continental Tour event in Brescia, Ricketts jumped 14.56m (0.2m/s) for third place behind two Cubans. Leyanis Pérez won with a jump of 14.92m (0.1m/s), and Liadagmis Povea was second at 14.84m (-03.m/s).

Kimberly Williams was sixth, jumping 13.66m (0.8m/s).

Lamara Distin was fifth in the women’s high jump, clearing the bar at 1.88m. Michael Campbell was third in the men’s 100m in 10.18 seconds (1.6m/s) while Krystal Sloley was fourth in the women’s 100m in 11.17 seconds (1.2m/s).

Zandrion Barnes was seventh in the men’s 400m in 46.11 seconds, the same place Briana Williams got in the women’s 200m where she ran 23.73 seconds.
