MY KINGSTON

Style Observer (SO): Describe Alec in a few sentences.

Alec Sukhu (AS): I am a purpose-driven professional who is passionate about innovating, development, and empowering others, with a creative mind seeking meaningful ways to make an impact both locally and globally.

SO: Cheers! What are you drinking?

AS: A refreshing glass of Stormy Valley, Appleton Estate Signature, lime juice, ginger beer — can’t go wrong with that classic combo.

SO: Describe a typical day in your life.

AS: Most days start early with a cup of coffee. From there, it’s meetings, dealing with clients, or planning strategy sessions. Evenings are often spent at networking events, working on side projects, or catching up with friends.

SO: What’s your favourite thing to do in Kingston?

AS: Grabbing a bite at a food spot. Kingston’s restaurants are the best!

SO: Where would you take a first-time visitor to Kingston?

AS: Definitely Usain Bolt’s Tracks & Records for a bit of Jamaican cuisine and history, then maybe a drive up to the Blue Mountains, as the view is amazing.

SO: Were you appointed Mayor of Kingston, what would get your immediate attention?

AS: Infrastructure and support for small businesses. I’d focus on improving public spaces and creating accessible resources for young entrepreneurs.

SO: How fulfilling has your career been?

AS: It’s been incredibly fulfilling. Every step has taught me something new, and being able to support others in achieving their goals has been the greatest reward.

SO: Which entrepreneurs locally or internationally inspire you?

AS: Internationally, I was inspired by Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg. A boy passionate about computers turning it into a business, and the idea of connecting people across the world turning into a global phenomenon.

SO: What’s on your vision board for the next five to 10 years?

AS: Expanding my ideas across the Caribbean, investing in education initiatives, and carving out more time for family and travel.

SO: Who’s your favourite dancehall/reggae artiste?

AS: I have to say Bob Marley. Growing up to his music being so conscious, uplifting, and full of energy.

SO: Driving from work to home, what’s on your playlist?

AS: A mix of Damian Marley, Chronic Law, Masicka, and some classic Buju Banton. It’s all about keeping the vibes up!

SO: What are some of the places on your travel bucket list?

AS: Japan, Morocco, and New Zealand. I’m drawn to places rich in culture and natural beauty.

SO: Which cologne are you currently splashing?

AS: Calvin Klein Euphoria — all-time favourite.

SO: What was your last bit of retail therapy?

AS: A sleek leather Jamaican-made bag I’ve had my eye on for a while — perfect for work and business trips.

SO: What are your creature comforts?

AS: Strong Jamaican coffee, good music, and the sound of rain.

SO: Share with us the title of the last book you read.

AS: Not a big reader but Seth Godin’s This Is Marketing: You Can’t Be Seen Until You Learn to See left an impression on me.

SO: Finally, what’s your personal credo?

AS: Lead with purpose. Live with integrity.
