The result overturned the preliminary count on election night, which saw  McGregor winning by 12 votes.Speaking with journalists shortly after the announcement, JLP Communication Taskforce Chairman Abka Fitz-Henley said the party was always confident about Williams’ prospects.

“After the official count, even after the preliminary count yesterday, we were confident because we know that Donovan has put in the work, well organised, perhaps among the most organised on election day in terms of bringing the votes out,” Fitz-Henley said.

“So the outcome today is no surprise to us. As usual, we thank the people of Central Kingston for giving Donovan the vote of confidence.”Fitz-Henley noted that the official result brings the JLP’s tally to 35 seats, compared with the  PNP’s 28. He emphasised that the victory underscores public confidence in the government’s record.

“The Jamaica Labour Party again [is] prevailing after campaigning on our track record of achievements and acts of care and a commitment to do much more for the people of Jamaica,” he said.

“We accept the outcome with humility and a firm commitment to serve the people of Jamaica.”The JLP spokesperson in  praising  Williams’ stewardship of the constituency says him representation  transcends political lines.

“That’s the firm commitment of the impact boss Donovan Williams, a man who knows no political partisanship in terms of how he deals with young people and people in general in the constituency of Central Kingston,” he argued.

Meanwhile, when asked for an  update on the final count in the constituency of St Mary South East where the party’s Norman Dunn was defeated by the PNP’s Christopher Brown by 11 votes, based on the preliminary count, Fitz-Henley said the party was still awaiting word from the Electoral Office of Jamaica.
