Dancehall artiste Tifa topped the US iTunes Reggae chart on Friday with the song Can’t Cancel Me.

The song, which is produced by Digital One Productions, was released on August 29.

In an interview with Observer Online on Saturday, Tifa shared the inspiration behind Can’t Cancel Me and what the achievement means to her.

“The producer Richard Roache decided that I needed a dance song in the space, and we doubled with a few rhythms, but this was the one that he said he was going to release first. I wrote about two songs talking about partying and body parts, but I wanted something to appeal to the masses, something that could motivate people, and I thought about Marcia Providence’s Hear My Cry Oh Lord and Vegas’s I am Blessed, and I remembered how impactful those songs were in the dance as motivational music. And, then I decided that was the direction that I was going in,” said Tifa.

She continued, “I kept hearing in my head you can’t cancel me, which was a gospel track written by Ryan Mark for his Milestone album, and I listened to it and decided I was going to flip it and turn it into a dancehall song with Pastor Ryan Mark‘s permission of course. I rewrote it and he gave his approval and the rest is history.”

“Topping the US iTunes Reggae chart it’s just a great feeling to know that you’re being supported and relevant after so many years, after so many lies told on me, the naysayers, after so much critique and bashing. This year and this song is proof to the saying “WAH NUH DEAD NUH DASH IT WEH,” said Tifa.

Asked if she expected the kind of reception that Can’t Cancel Me has so far received, the Spell it Out artiste said, “I’ve had hit songs, but none with this kind of momentum in less than two weeks.”

Tifa told Observer Online that the song is a precursor to a project that she is working on.

“It definitely is. I have so much in-store for everyone. I’ve kicked into a different gear, a new gear and I’m eager and ready to feed my fans,” she reasoned.
