Chelsea host Arsenal in London showdown

THE Premier League will serve up another Super Sunday delight when Chelsea and Arsenal meet in a heavyweight London derby that could shape the early title picture. Before that however, high-flying AC Milan and Lazio collide in a blockbuster Serie A encounter on Saturday.

Event # 1 – Serie A – AC Milan vs Lazio – 2:45 pm

Following their 1-0 win over city rivals Inter Milan last weekend AC Milan will host Lazio, aiming for another three points that will signal their intent to be genuine title contenders this season. A victory for Milan would see them jumping to the top of the league as leaders Roma won’t be in action until Sunday. With that said, AC Milan come into this vital clash in excellent form, having gone unbeaten in their last 11 Serie A matches and have lost just once at home in their last eight games. The win over Inter in their Derby della Madonnina last weekend capped a month for Milan that has seen them unbeaten in their last five Serie A matches, though three of those were draws. However, at home Milan have been impressive, winning four of their six matches while losing just once.

Lazio’s campaign has been somewhat inconsistent as they are down in eighth place ahead of this clash. At times they can be brilliant but then unrecognisable on other occasions, as shown in their recent results of five wins and four defeats in their last nine matches. They enter this game off the back of a dominant 2-0 home win over Lecce last weekend however their away form remains a significant concern, with just one win from their six road trips so far this season, highlighting their struggles to replicate home form when travelling. Their poor away record, which includes three defeats and two draws, will be particularly worrying ahead of their visit to AC Milan who have turned their home turf in somewhat of a fortress in recent times.

Key Stats

• AC Milan – has won six of the last eight home matches so far this season.

• Lazio – has won three of the last six Serie A games but scored just three goals in six away matches so far, highlighting the struggles on the road.

• Both sides – AC Milan has won five of the last six head-to-head meetings with Lazio but was stunned 1-0 by Lazio when both teams met in March of this year.

The betting Tip. AC Milan win.

Event # EPL – Chelsea vs Arsenal – 11:30 am

Chelsea will welcome Arsenal to Stamford Bridge in a heavyweight London derby on Sunday, in a game that could go a far way in deciding who will be lifting the Premier League title this season. Chelsea has been in superb form lately, so much so that they moved quietly to second in the table — six points behind their upcoming opponents, Arsenal. The Blues, Chelsea, enter Sunday’s massive derby unbeaten in their last six overall matches, including a huge win over Barcelona who they battered 3-0 in midweek Champions League action. Strangely, of Chelsea’s three defeats so far this campaign, two have come at Stamford Bridge. However, they will be confident of at least finding the net as they have scored in all but one of their matches in the league so far this season.

That said, the stage is set for a dramatic encounter at the Bridge as Arsenal arrives as league leaders. But not simply league leaders, they arrive as the best side in Europe having demolished and flattened every side they have faced so far, with the only exception being a 1-0 defeat away at Liverpool back in August. Since then, Arsenal has won 16 of the 19 matches in all competitions, including a 4-1 thrashing dished out on Tottenham in the North London derby last weekend. And, as if that wasn’t already a statement performance, the Gunners turned it up a notch in midweek Champions League action as they toyed with and then destroyed the previously unbeaten Bayern Munich in another electrifying display, hammering them 3-1 to sit atop both the Premier League and Champions League, signalling their intent to win one, if not both, titles this season.

Key Stats

• Chelsea – unbeaten in 10 of the last 11 matches in all competitions but the last home win over Arsenal was in 2018.

• Arsenal – unbeaten in the last 15 overall matches and also unbeaten in the last seven away matches.

• Both sides – Arsenal has not lost a single Premier League match against Chelsea since back in August 2021.

The betting Tip: Arsenal win.
