Mediation delayed in hidden-cam theft case
ST JAMES, Jamaica — The case against Renae Fletcher, who was allegedly captured on covert footage removing thousands of dollars from a Bogue Hill home, took a step towards mediation Wednesday after the complainant indicated she was open to that option.
However, when the matter was mentioned in the St James Parish Court, Fletcher’s attorney, Dalton Reid, requested a new date. He explained that he wanted Fletcher’s mother present at the mediation session so she could help her daughter — who is 18 years old — make an informed decision.
Fletcher, of Orange in St James, appeared before the parish court where Judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton extended her bail until January 21, 2026.
Fletcher is the daughter of the complainant’s helper and had been staying at the complainant’s home on and off for a decade.
In May, the complainant noticed money disappearing from a chest of drawers and installed a nanny cam hidden inside a clock. On June 6, she reportedly received an alert showing Fletcher in the bedroom removing items from the drawer.
When she returned home, $800,000 and US$100 were allegedly missing.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to Fletcher’s arrest and a charge of simple larceny.
