SPOTTED!!

Who? Chris Chambers

Principal

The Chamber Group

A New York-based boutique public relations firm founded in 2006

The buzz… Chambers is the invisible but oh so powerful hand behind the likes of Usher, OutKast, Jill Scott, Drake, Jaime Foxx, Ne-Yo, Ciara, Solange, J Cole, Erykah Badu, and the list goes on…

On his ascent in public relations… I was a journalism major at NYU and attended a PR workshop as part of the programme… that’s where the interest started.

There were no real classes that focused on PR; at the time, the journalism department focused on English and writing. Interning during my junior year in college for a PR firm is where I realised this was something I was interested in.

Through NYU, my first internship was with a boutique PR firm called Set to Run Public Relations which at the time worked with all the major music labels in New York. The company had just started its internship programme and I was part of the first round of college kids they took in. The internship was where I learned the basic skills of the PR world. It was the most rewarding experience, as the publicists wanted us to learn and we were taught how to draft a press release, schedule a media day, etc.

I knew from that experience I wanted to make PR my career path.

On being listed in Billboard Magazine’s Power Publicists (first-ever definitive list of the music industry’s top artiste representatives)… It always feels good to be recognised for my work, especially amongst my peers… I can honestly say it was a highlight in my career.

A few 2025 highlights include… Usher’s participation in the Met Gala “Superfine”… Plus, being the face of the Ralph Lauren fragrance “Ralph’s Club”…

Working with Dance Theatre of Harlem, the iconic premier ballet company was and is a highlight.

Ending the year with Grammy Award-winning rapper Future being named as a face of Louis Vuitton.

On Usher’s amazing year… Usher comes from that era where performers worked on their craft to be great — not okay or good! I think the consumers knew that he was going to give them a performance well worth the ticket price because he wants everyone to walk away afterwards feeling good, forgetting about their everyday problems. There are a lot more exciting projects that will take place over a few different platforms.
