League leaders MBU face Harbour View test today
Fresh from their win over former champions Mount Pleasant FA on Thursday, Harbour View will now face Jamaica Premier League leaders Montego Bay United (MBU) in a second-round game at the Harbour View Stadium today at 3:30 pm.
Harbour View ended a 12-game run without a win when they beat Mount Pleasant in the rescheduled fixture. They will try to make it two straight against MBU.
Three games are scheduled today. Mount Pleasant will travel to Tivoli Gardens at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex, and Dunbeholden FC will host Treasure Beach FC.
On Monday, Racing United will meet Phoenix Chapelton Maroons in the first game of a double header at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex. Arnett Gardens will face Spanish Town Police in the second game.
After Thursday’s result, Harbour View are three points behind 12th place. When they met MBU in December, Harbour View came from behind three times to earn a 4-4 draw.
MBU have drawn two of their nine games this year and conceded just two goals. They lead the table by seven points.
Dwight Merrick has moved to the top of the scoring chart since Jourdain Fletcher left for Vietnam. He has scored in back-to-back games and is expected to lead the attack with Brian Brown and Nashordo Gibbs.
Thursday’s win was the first time in 10 games that Harbour View kept a clean sheet. Goalkeeper Benjamin Williams may be tested again.
Mount Pleasant will look for a response when they face Tivoli. Tivoli are without a win in their last four games and sit ninth. They have not beaten Mount Pleasant in their last nine meetings since the 2021-22 season.
Dunbeholden have never lost to Treasure Beach in three league meetings, including a 4-0 win in the first round. They are two points ahead of Treasure Beach and are without a win in five games.
Treasure Beach have not won since their 4-3 comeback win over Harbour View. They have drawn four of their last six matches but lost to Chapelton last Sunday.
