Family seeks answers after US influencer dies during ‘dream’ vacation with fiancé
Family members of Ashly Robinson, the American content creator popularly known as Ashlee Jenae, are seeking answers following her sudden death while on vacation with her fiancé in Zanzibar.
“One moment she was celebrating love and life in truly Ashly fashion, and the next, she was gone,” the family said in a statement Sunday on Instagram.
According to the relatives, Robinson and her fiancé Joe McCann had been enjoying a “dream trip”, one which included the influencer celebrating her 31st birthday and receiving a marriage proposal from McCann – moments she shared with her more than 88,000 followers on social media.
However, the dream vacation turned into the family’s “worst nightmare”.
“Ashly was found unconscious in her villa and was rushed to a local hospital where her death was confirmed hours later,” the statement read.
According to media reports, police believe Robinson died by suicide.
It is also alleged that the couple had a prior “misunderstanding” during the trip, resulting in hotel management deciding to “separate” the pair into two different rooms.
Robinson’s family, who described her passing as “suspicious”, said they are working closely with authorities in Zanzibar to get answers.
“The suddenness, the unanswered questions, and the distance from home have made this tragedy even more overwhelming for our family,” the statement read.
“At this time there is an active investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ashly’s suspicious passing,” it continued, adding “Although we have many questions, we are placing our trust in the officials in Zanzibar and are working closely with them as we seek clarity and answers.”
Robinson was a lifestyle content creator who shared glimpses of her personal travels and life with McCann with her tens of thousands of followers.
