Allegations without action serve no one
Dear Editor,
The Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) president, Mark Malabver, should be reminded that he is not a journalist who must protect a source.
If he is told that people are having sexual intercourse openly in a shelter at a school, he has a responsibility to share in confidence that information with the education authorities. The education ministry is now bound to have the matter investigated and properly addressed. Why mention, then say it was shared in confidence? Was he seeking to expose the Government or wanted to score points as head of the teachers’ union?
This behaviour is irresponsible, and I hope the JTA boss, in the interest of education, will say what he has heard. If not this public statement on the issue will haunt him.
But, again, did he make checks to confirm before his public disclosure?
