Cop building legacy with JCS Courier and more

When Jermaine Harvey was growing up, his parents weren’t rich and neither were his aunts and uncles. Despite not having that monetary backing and direct influence in the form of close family members, he still knew that he wanted to become an entrepreneur.

Harvey shared that he is well aware that being a policeman is not something that will last forever and therefore made himself the boss of a constantly growing company called JCS Courier Services Limited, headquartered in east Kingston.

“As a youth growing up, I always wanted to be an entrepreneur. One thing I can say for sure is that dad and mom definitely inspired good morals and values in us the kids. My dad was always big on education. However, what dad didn’t have was that large sum of cash for us to go and start life. Everything we achieved came solely from blood, sweat and tears. Trust me, there are many days when I try to throw in the towel and I say nah, I have come this far with nothing so why give up now,” Harvey said.

He shared that he started JCS in the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic when movement of members of the public was highly restricted.

According to Harvey, JCS provides solutions for everyone’s busy day and things are being put in place to ensure that people have access to its services 24 hours a day. He shared also that the company is finalising plans to open an office in St Thomas to make life easier for the natives.

“We are here to enhance everyone, not to compete. We are creating opportunities. There is a slice of the cake in courier business for everyone, whether by air, sea, motor cycle, motor car, van or truck. We provide solutions for everyone’s busy day. You are at work and need something to get from point A to B, that is JCS. If you need lunch, breakfast, brunch or supper, we are expanding our services so we can function 24 hours a day. All you need to do is download the JCS app on either one of the platforms, whether App Store or Google Play Store.

“JCS is doing door to door package drop-offs. You can shop with your favourite online stores and if you ship to any one of our warehouses in China or America, whether by air or sea freight, we drop it off at your home or office free of cost,” Harvey shared, adding that JCS offers warehousing space for businesses that do not have a warehouse.

Harvey told Observer Online that he anticipates bringing a lot of joy to the people of St Thomas as there are no official courier services in the parish that are known to him.

“Based on my research there is no official courier service in St Thomas. There are just bearers and driver’s out there who are just freelancing. We are not going there to compete or put anyone out of employment. We will simply be enhancing what they have so they can gain more. The future for JCS is to expand right across the Caribbean and into the wider diaspora, providing convenience to all. There are a lot of small shipping companies that are having warehouse challenges.

“Our motto is to make each and everyone’s day, evening and night, hassle free, so JCS offers warehousing for small shipping companies that don’t have a warehouse of their own. We are already operating in St Thomas but we haven’t done an official launch as yet. For example, Tastee has a location in St Thomas and we deliver for their customers. If persons look at the JCS app they will see the St Thomas location. If they don’t want to order via an online platform, they can just call the store directly or call the JCS office and the JCS office will do the arrangements for you,” Harvey said.
