Shaggy, Robin Thicke’s Looking Lovely tops Florida Reggae and Dancehall chart
Since he emerged on the music scene more than three decades ago Shaggy has collaborated with dozens of male recording artistes.
Some of the collaborations that have made their way onto the charts include What’s Love with Akon; That Girl with Maxi Priest; Angel, Big Up, In the Summertime, and Nice and Lovely (all featuring Rayvon); It Wasn’t Me, Bonafide Girl, and Your Eyes (all featuring Ricardo “Rik Rok” Ducent); The Train is Coming with Ken Boothe; Hope with King Mydas; Me Julie with Ali G; Fly High with Gary “Nesta” Pine; Til a Mawnin with Sting; and Banana with Conkarah.
The latest duet between Shaggy and a male artiste is Looking Lovely featuring American singer and songwriter Robin Thicke, another preview to Shaggy’s forthcoming album Lottery due for release May 15.
Looking Lovely, samples a 1977 top 10 R&B chart hit by Bill Withers titled Lovely Day and now tops the Voice of the Caribbean’s weekly Florida Reggae and Dancehall Top 20 Radio Singles chart.
Robin Thicke has had quite a number of songs that have had runs on the Billboard charts, including
Lost Without You, Magic, Sex Therapy, Give it 2 U featuring Kendrick Lamar and 2 Chainz, as well as
Blurred Lines featuring TI and Pharrell.
Thicke’s dad, actor Alan, gained popularity in the 1980s on television sitcom Growing Pains, which featured teen heartthrob Kirk Cameron.
His mother is actress and singer Gloria Loring. She and Alan both co-wrote and performed the theme songs to the 1970s and 1980s television sitcoms Diff’rent Strokes and The Facts of Life.
Loring was a cast member for many years on the television soap Days of Our Lives. In 1986 she scored a hit ballad with singer and actor Carl Anderson titled Lovers and Friends, which was quite popular locally. It reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Still in the Florida Reggae and Dancehall chart, Emotions by J’Calm and Nigy Boy moves up to #2, while
Tease Har 2.0 by Anthony B slides down to #3. Moving up two places to #4 is Panic by Vybz Kartel and Shenseea, while Hush by Nigy Boy rises to #5.
Round and Round by Mortimer débuts at #19.
Over on the South Florida Reggae chart, Trapped by Richie Stephens spends a second week at #1, with Sexy Lady by Ed Robinson darting from #16 to #12.
Satisfaction Guaranteed by Tony Gold jumps onto the chart at #24 and I Shot the Sheriff by Etana opens at #25.
Trapped by Richie Stephens crowns the New York Reggae chart for a fourth week, while Chezidek’s Caah Believe inches up from #6 to #5.
Looking Lovely by Shaggy and Robin Thicke charges from #19 to #9, Where My Heart Belongs by Gramps Morgan steps up from #12 to #10, and Ten Foot Wall by Tasha T rises to #16.
Reggae Music is Alive by Mackie Conscious is new at #29, and Style by Papa Michigan débuts at #30.
Moving now to the Reggae North Canadian Top 20 Reggae chart where Iley Dread takes over the #1 spot with
Nah Cheat, while Feels Like a Movie by Celena inches to #2. I’ll Be Your King by Akustix is down to #3, while
So Long by Neto Yuth and Anthony B stays firm at #4. Chant by Paris Ivy steps up to #5.
This week’s sole new entry is Yesterday Once More by Steele, which enters at #20.
Show Us the Way by Eddie Bullen featuring Kandice K.A.S.H., Tasha T and Mel Dube’ remains in the #1 spot on the Rebel Vibez Top Ten Canadian Reggae chart.
Forevermore by Jurney Star is #2, Shine by Elaine Shepherd is #3, Rise Up by Belinda Brady stays at #4, and
Student of a Broken Heart by Exco Levi completes the top 5.
On the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, there is a re-entry at #8 with Live in St Augustine by Rebelution.
Bob Marley and the Wailers’ Legend continues to dominate the #1 spot for a 327th non-consecutive week.
Dutty Classics Collection by Sean Paul re-enters at #2, Best of Shaggy: The Boombastic Collection by Shaggy is #3, World on Fire by Stick Figure is #4, Sean Paul’s Dutty Rock is #5, Greatest Hits by UB40 is #6, and Wisdom and Set in Stone by Stick Figure are #7 and #9 respectively.
Rounding out the top 10 is Exodus by Bob Marley and the Wailers.
And, finally, Sean Paul and Keyshia Cole’s (When You Gonna) Give it Up To Me continues to make its presence felt on the charts. On Billboard’s Global 200, it holds firm at #57 for a second week, while over on Global 200 Excluding US it moves up to #36 in its 14th week.
