Supernatural Power set to romp World Vet Day Trophy

THE running of the $1.25-million World Vet Day Trophy is set to highlight tomorrow’s 10-race card at Caymanas Park.

A field of 12 will face the starter over one mile (1,600m), and on form, Philip Feanny-conditioned
Supernatural Power is expected to romp this trophy race.

The Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide takes a closer look at the runners and their chances:

1. SUPERNATURAL POWER (USA): (4 gr f by Cross Traffic – Urquia) – Has finished second in both starts this season. She was 2¾ lengths behind Horse of the Year and stablemate Rideallday in the Ian Levy Cup over 8½ furlongs (1,700m) on April 6 in record time — both track and stakes. Steps down in class here and, all being equal, Supernatural Power should be an easy winner.

2. UNSPUN (USA): (4 dk b/br c by Spun to Run – Uneeda Ride ) – Showed ability as a three-year-old but has gone off the boil. Needs to rediscover his spark — and this is a tough spot to do it.

3. COOKIE DAY N NIGHT: (6 ch h by Resurgence – Eloping Emma) – Veteran who will appreciate the mile but lacks the firepower to win. Best he can hope for is a minor cheque.

4. CAPTAIN SPARROW: (5 b h by Savoy Stomp – Rackdam’s Mistress) – Not expected to raise a serious gallop here.

5. CALIFORNIA GOLD: (6 b h by Lion Tamer – Blue Saphira) – In deep. Would be a massive shock if California Gold should win here.

6. WICKED CASSIE (USA): (5 dk b/br m by Wicked Strong – Clever Cassie) – Is going to be left behind in this one.

7. SHEER DELIGHT (USA): (5 dk b h by Girvin – Pantyhose) – Honest sort but limited. A minor placing would be his ceiling.

8.MAGNIFICENT FORCE (USA): (5 dk b/br m by Cloud Computing – Cocktail Cruise) – Was seen making strong headway when finishing fourth over 6½ furlongs (1,300m). The mile will suit, and she’s bred to improve with distance. Live for the exotics at a price.

9. SENSATIONAL SOUL: (4 ch c by Soul Warrior – Red Gold) – Will enjoy this two-turn mile and should be doing his best work late in the race. Needs a few competitors to underperform in order to hit the board.

10.MARK MY IDENTITY: (4 ch c by Bern Identity – Sweet Like Sugar) – Solid second to Don Kwesi over course and distance last time. Mark My Identity is consistent, genuine, and likely to be chasing Supernatural Power home. Clear second pick.

11.INSPIRE FORCE (USA): (6 ch h by Union Jackson – Exotic Design) – Has no chance of winning.

12. IS THAT A FACT (USA): (6 b h by Palace Malice – Valid Code) – Has been working well coming into this race and is expected to run accordingly.
