Attorney happy client acquitted of gun charges
Attorney-at-law Shannan Clarke has expressed delight over the acquittal of her client Roge Stubbs in the Home Circuit Court Wednesday on possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition charges.
“I am happy that he’s free. He has maintained his innocence from the inception. I am glad that he can now move on with his life,” Clarke told the Jamaica Observer on Friday morning.
It was alleged that on December 25, 2022, about 2:30am, Kingston Western cops stopped a motor vehicle with five occupants. Further allegation is that one of the occupants threw a firearm out the window.
In 2023, three of the men were released when they appeared in court, after the crown offered no evidence against them.
The other two men, Stubbs and Jahmala Vernon, were acquitted after a trial which commenced on May 6, 2026.
The Crown’s case collapsed due to the police being unable to state where the weapon was allegedly thrown from, and whether any of the men was seen with a weapon. Additionally, DNA tests results did not match any of the men.
Vernon was represented by King’s Counsel Tom Tavares Finson.
