Stranjah Miller drops reggae-roots Awake
Europe has been a happy hunting ground for roots-reggae artistes since the 1970s.
Stranjah Miller considers the continent, where he first performed in 2016, his strongest market.
The singer is currently in France promoting Awake, his third album, which was released on April 25 by True Move International, a company based in Colombia.
Most of the producers he worked with on the 15-song set are from Europe.
“I go to Europe every year. My first tour there was with Inna Di Road Sound System in France. I would say my strongest market is France, then The Netherlands and the United Kingdom,” said Stranjah Miller.
Awake is dominated by songs with Afro-conscious themes, such as Repatriation. The title song is Nyahbinghi-flavoured, while on Coconut Chalice and Herbalist the St Ann native pays homage to ganja.
Move Mountain, Stranjah Miller’s second album, was released in 2022 by KDM Family from the Reunion Islands.
Bad Slave, his first, came out in 2019 on Strategy Record in France.
Lawless, Stranjah Miller’s lone EP, was released in 2020 by True Move International.
“Awake is quite different compared to the others I have done. It is a more polished and uplifting project, a conscious reggae roots album with a sense of spirituality,” he said.
Influenced by “new roots” acts such as Capleton, Sizzla, Anthony B, and Richie Spice, Stranjah Miller has been recording music since 2008.
Eight years later he made his live debut in Europe, which has been receptive to Rastafarian and World Beat acts from Jamaica and Africa for over 50 years.
