NCU celebrates Vivienne Dyer achieving doctorate from Andrews University
DESPITE missing many early years of formal education, Vivienne Dyer graduated recently with a PhD in Higher Education from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan, in the United States of America. Obtaining her doctoral degree crowns a journey marked by unwavering determination and resilience.
What makes this accomplishment especially inspiring is where Dr Dyer’s journey began. She entered high school much later than the traditional student, and has overcome many challenges, including homelessness.
While serving as an administrative assistant at Northern Caribbean University (NCU), she courageously embarked on her academic pursuit — taking one course at a time. She subsequently obtained both a Bachelor and Master’s degree from the institution. She worked in various capacities at the NCU, including as executive assistant in the Office of the President.
Dr Dyer maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout her studies at Andrews University. She overcame many obstacles along her path to success, all the while demonstrating character, creativity and competence. Her NCU family celebrates Dr Dyer’s well-deserved success and also the spirit of perseverance that defines her story.
However, the strongest expressions of pride and joy comes from her daughter Davia.
“My mom has always had a dream that never left her no matter how long it took. As her only child I have had a front row seat for all the sacrifices she made, the long nights, the early mornings and her unwavering determination. It has been so inspiring to watch even when things were difficult and uncertain,“ she said.
“There were so many times she put her own comfort and joy on hold just to show up for others, offer encouragement and lift them up even when they were ahead of her, because that’s just who she is. She is the most patient, genuine, loving, and dedicated person I know.”
