Devin Di Dakta counts on OMEGA 11

Dancehall artiste Devin Di Dakta is preparing to unveil what he describes as his “most complete body of work” to date with the release of his highly anticipated 15-track album, OMEGA 11, on May 18.

The entertainer said the project represents both a culmination and a transition in his artistic journey.

“This album is my most complete body of work this far. It’s also the end of a journey for me before I embark on a new one,” he told the Jamaica Observer’s Splash.

Credit indicate that the artiste serves as executive producer with “sir” Luminous under his independent label, SAINTkingstonMUSIC.

OMEGA 11 was crafted with greater purpose and maturity than his previous releases, said the artiste, blending commercial appeal with introspective storytelling with cinematic influences.

“OMEGA 11 is more poised and intentional than previous projects. The album has some really nice commercial sounding tracks along with a few that take you on a lyrical journey. There’s also a touch of cinematic elements to the sound of this album which is something I’ve been working on behind the scenes for a while now,” he said.

While rooted in dancehall, Devin Di Dakta believes the album steps outside of current sonic trends dominating the genre.

“I honestly don’t see a clear way for this album to fit in anywhere in dancehall or reggae today based on the sounds and lyrical content,” he admitted. “But what I know for sure is there’s always a space for good music, regardless of the genre. That being said, OMEGA 11 most definitely has dancehall on it, just not the contemporary trap sound.”

The album explores themes of love, reflection, heartbreak, and personal growth, drawing heavily from his own experiences.

“It’s about the girl I am in love with, the girl I used to be in love with, and the girl I want to be in love with. It’s also about life lessons I’ve learned the hard way or see others faced. It’s all there,” he said.

Beyond the storytelling, the artiste hopes listeners walk away with a stronger appreciation for his artistry and the emotional layers embedded throughout the project.

“Women should feel loved and respected while having a good time listening, and men should feel the urge to send their women a few of the songs to express love or just simply hol’ a meds and enjoy the vibe,” he continued.

Though the album took only a few months to complete in studio, he revealed that many of the ideas had been developing for years.

The only featured collaboration on the album comes from reggae singer NVT3L (Natel), a move Devin intentionally kept minimal in order to preserve the project’s personal tone and sonic cohesion.

Among the standout tracks is So Beautiful, which the deejay said pushed him creatively in new directions.

“I wrote that song years ago, but I recently revisited the production and took it to another level,” he shared.

Despite his confidence in the music itself, the artiste acknowledged that the biggest challenge comes not from the creative process, but from ensuring the music reaches the audience it deserves.

“There’s no challenging part of music for me when it comes to the creative side of things. Challenge only steps in when it’s time to get it out to the masses. So it’s just up to me to keep at it and create the path for it,” Devin Di Dakta said.
