Dr Patricia Smith presents Tourism Minister with copy of her book ‘I Persist’
Kingston, Jamaica—Home care entrepreneur, hotelier and author, Dr Patricia Smith recently presented a signed copy of her book I Persist to Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett, during a brief ceremony at the AC Hotel in Kingston.
The presentation took place on the sidelines of an engagement where leaders from tourism, education, and business gathered to discuss resilience and innovation in Jamaica’s service sectors.
In handing over the book, Dr Smith said I Persist was written to encourage Jamaicans, “particularly women from State care institutions and all who experienced the challenges of homelessness and despair, to remain steadfast in the face of adversity and to navigate their lives with purpose”.
“Minister Bartlett’s career is a testament to persistence,” Smith said. “From navigating global crises to championing Jamaica’s tourism on the world stage, his work reflects the very spirit of this book. It is my hope that I Persist will resonate with all who are committed to building a stronger Jamaica.”
Minister Bartlett welcomed the gesture, noting that resilience and perseverance are central to Jamaica’s tourism recovery and growth strategy.
“Tourism has weathered hurricanes, pandemics, and global geopolitical shocks,” Bartlett said. “Our ability to persist, adapt, and reimagine is why Jamaica remains a top destination. I am grateful to Dr Smith for this thoughtful gift and for her contribution to the national conversation on leadership and endurance.”
I Persist explores themes of personal resilience, overcoming systemic barriers, and the power of purpose-driven leadership.
