21-year-old slapped with murder charges
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A 21-year-old man has been charged with murder, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, and using a firearm to commit a felony following a shooting incident in Kingston on March 1.
Police say the charges were laid against Andre Brown, otherwise called ‘Biggs’ of a Kingston Address, following the death of a man on Freeman Lane, also in the parish, on Sunday, March 1.
The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Tyrick Peart of a Kingston address.
Reports from the Hunts Bay police are that about 9:00 pm, Brown, armed with a firearm and in the company of other individuals, pounced upon Peart and opened fire at him before fleeing the area.
When the shooting subsided, Peart was found with several gunshot wounds and was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Following an investigation into the matter, Brown was taken into custody during an operation in St Ann on Monday, May 18.
He was formally charged based on recorded statements and after participating in a question-and-answer session.
His court date is being arranged.
