St James man charged with murdering American wife, Melissa Samnath

ST MARY, Jamaica — A St James man has been charged with murder in relation to the death of his American wife, 35-year-old Melissa Samnath.

Dane Watson, 31, was formally charged on Wednesday by detectives in St James, after last week surrendering to police in the company of family members.

Samnath, whose address was listed in New York, was found with multiple injuries at Cornwall Regional Hospital on April 29 and was later pronounced dead. Police believe the suspect brought her to the hospital before leaving her there.

It is also believed Watson had fled the parish and was hiding in the Gayle community of St Mary. Concerned about his safety, he reportedly contacted relatives, who then coordinated with the Gayle police to arrange his surrender.

More information to follow.
