WATCH: Overturned trailer truck causing traffic delays in Central Village
A 40-foot trailer truck overturned along the main road in Central Village, St Catherine on Thursday morning after the vehicle reportedly developed mechanical problems, causing major traffic congestion in the area.
Driver Fabian Cole told Observer Online that the incident happened a few minutes after 9 am while he was travelling from Kingston with the chassis attached to the trailer.
“I wasn’t speeding or anything,” Cole said, explaining that the vehicle suddenly encountered difficulties when the chassis became lodged in the tires on one side of the trailer.
According to Cole, the issue caused the tyres to burst, resulting in the vehicle overturning.
“The chassis itself dug down in it, and because of the motion and the weight, it jammed down in the tyre and burst it and flipped it off the chassis,” he explained.
Cole said he quickly realised the trailer was about to overturn after noticing dust behind him, but managed to maintain control of the vehicle.
“I was really frightened as well, but I didn’t lose focus. I realised that it was going to go over,” he said.
The driver also praised the police for their swift response, noting that officers arrived within minutes and immediately began assisting with traffic management.
“At the moment we’re waiting on the cranes to come and lift it up and clear the road,” Cole added.
No injuries were reported in the incident. Cole said he was unharmed despite the frightening ordeal.
