Richie Malvo carries family legacy with new single ‘Remember Mama’
Like many children of entertainers, Richie Malvo was expected to follow in his parents’ footsteps into that industry. It took him some time before he decided to take the plunge and become a recording artiste.
Son of singer Anthony Malvo, he made his debut last year with Yes I Love You. The follow-up to that song is Remember Mama, which was released in early May for Mother’s Day.
“It’s my second song and it feels great. It feels like I’ve accomplished something great…it was like nothing recording (in the studio). I think that’s the easiest part for me,” Richie Malvo told Observer Online.
Remember Mama is produced by Exco Levi, the Toronto, Canada-based artiste who has won multiple JUNO Awards in that country.
Richie Malvo is from the Kintyre area of St Andrew where his family has strong roots. Anthony Malvo started his career there in the 1980s on sound systems, then had a big break in 1988 with Come Back to Me, a collaboration with Tiger.
His sister, Tiffanie Malvo, is also a singer with several songs to her name. Given his lineage, it seemed natural for Richie Malvo to follow suit.
“My dad is a great influence in my life and my sound, he’s the first singer I’ve known. People have said I sound a bit like him, so there you go,” he said.
