Charming Chaterbox, Super David square off for Monday Morning Trophy

The 10th running of the $1.1-million Monday Morning Trophy takes centre stage on this afternoon’s nine-race card at Caymanas Park, with all eyes on Charming Chaterbox and Super David — two promising runners who have already shown they can win with authority.

The Restricted Allowance II contest for native-bred three-year-olds who are non-winners of two will be run over seven furlongs (1,400m), and the eight-horse field looks set to be a two-horse duel.

Charming Chaterbox arrives with momentum after a dominant debut on February 21. The Successful Native–Morning Glory filly won by 9¼ lengths over five-and-half furlongs (1,100m) in 1:08.3, and with natural improvement expected, she’s firmly in the mix for top honours. Tevin Foster will ride for trainer Robert Pearson.

Super David, a three-year-old bay gelding, matched that level of dominance on May 2, romping home by 8¼ lengths over six-and-a-half furlongs (1,300m) in 1:20.2. The extra half-furlong (100m) here shouldn’t pose a problem, and with the 2000 Guineas on the radar, he looks capable of making it two in a row. He is bred by
Patton Proud out of the Storm Craft mare Storm Girl and is trained by David Powell.

The contest is positioned as the eighth event on the card, with a post time of 4:45 pm. First race is at 12 noon featuring a three-year-olds and upward Claiming ($1 million-$800,000) going five furlongs (1,000m) straight.

Three-year-old chestnut filly Tia Maria, trained by Anthony “Baba” Nunes, adds an intriguing wildcard on her seasonal debut after a 148-day layoff.

Last seen finishing seventh in the Wayne DaCosta Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes on December 26, 2025, she’s been working well and has the class and talent to take this if she’s fit enough first time out.

She worked five furlongs in 1:01.4 on Saturday, May 9; strode six furlongs in 1:25.0 with the last five in 1:09.0 on Friday, May 15; and capped off with a blistering 1:13.2 for six furlongs on Saturday, May 16. Based on those workouts, nothing more can be said of Tia Maria here — she’s fit, ready, and has the class to win first time back. Raddesh Roman will ride.

The rest of the field faces an uphill task. Minneha, Darwin, London Spirit, Strong Aveenu, and Fidelity have shown little form to suggest they can upset the main contenders.

Strong Aveenu did win last time out, but a repeat against this company looks unlikely. If Charming Chaterbox and Super David reproduce their best, the Monday Morning Trophy should come down to a straight fight between the two, but watch Tia Maria (Bold Conquest – Zacapa).
