Fusion Rise launches pilot workforce development programme at Portland High School
FUSION Rise Limited recently completed its first pilot workforce development programme in partnership with students at Portland High School, marking an important step toward creating new opportunities in skilled trades training, workforce development, and construction education in Jamaica.
The one-day pilot initiative introduced students to practical construction industry pathways, workforce readiness concepts, and opportunities within the skilled trades sector. Students participated in discussions surrounding professionalism in construction, career development, quality standards, and the growing need for skilled workers within Jamaica’s evolving construction industry.
The initiative comes at a time when Jamaica continues to experience increasing demand for skilled construction professionals, improved housing solutions, and greater workforce development opportunities for young people.
Fusion Rise is a Jamaican-Canadian workforce development and construction initiative focused on skilled trades training, mentorship, construction innovation, and community-based building solutions.
Founded by Dr Oneil Randall, a Jamaican-Canadian construction professional with more than 18 years of industry experience and educational training in Canada, Fusion Rise was established in response to growing concerns surrounding skilled labour shortages, youth unemployment, and the need for improved quality standards within Jamaica’s construction sector.
“Jamaica has tremendous potential, especially among its young people,” said Randall. “This pilot programme is about creating pathways, building confidence, and exposing students to opportunities within the trades and construction sector while promoting quality workmanship, professionalism, and long-term community development.”
Fusion Rise plans to continue expanding its workforce development initiatives through future training workshops, mentorship programmes, modular construction initiatives, and community-based projects aimed at supporting employment creation and sustainable development across Jamaica.
The organisation’s long-term vision includes practical trades exposure and workforce training; apprenticeship and mentorship pathways; and entrepreneurship opportunities within the construction sector.
Fusion Rise aims to help shape a new generation of skilled, professional, and community-minded workers prepared to contribute to Jamaica’s future development.
