KSAMC facelift for St William Grant monument
THE Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation kicked off its Labour Day 2026 activities with transformation work at the St William Grant monument in Brandon Hill Square.
Mayor of Kingston Andrew Swaby, Councillor Chrishina Richards and residents carried out beautification works, repairs to the water catchment tank and the installation of a storyboard highlighting the life and legacy of St William Grant, the pan-Africanist and labour and trade union activist born in Brandon Hill.
The project also reflected the significance of Africa Day and St William Grant’s role as a member of the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League.
It further connected with this year’s Africa Day theme, “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063”, through the restoration of the community water catchment system.
