Fashion Radar: Statement Pieces by Chris

As Father’s Day approaches, Tuesday Style Fashion (TSF) turns its attention to the modern gentleman and the wardrobe staples that define effortless sophistication. We tapped leading menswear retailer Christopher Charley to share his expert insights on refining personal style, from impeccably tailored blazers and crisp shirts to elevated off-duty essentials. Whether dressing for a special celebration or upgrading everyday looks, Charley highlights the key pieces every father should have in his wardrobe to project confidence, versatility, and timeless appeal.

TSF: What inspired you to open a men’s clothing store?

CC: My father and my girlfriend inspired me. As a child growing up I used to watch and see how my dad — at the time he was working in corporate — would take pride in his appearance getting ready for work, and I have always admired that about him. It has been a trait that has stuck with me throughout the years. Fast-forward to 2018, when I met my girlfriend who was an active person in the fashion industry, that propelled my timid personality to open what is now Statement Pieces by Chris.

TSF: What has been your proudest moment as a business owner?

CC: When my first customers walked in the store shortly after opening. Trevaugn Gray and Sheldon Jackson, I can still remember their names to this day!

TSF: How has men’s fashion evolved since you first entered the industry?

CC: It’s constantly changing which forces you to be adaptive, creative and innovative.

TSF: How do you help customers select clothing that reflects their personality?

CC: Each customer possesses different personalities and as such based on the event that they are attending you have to always find something to complement their personality. In so doing, you allow them to feel more comfortable about the suit selection, which means they will wear it with pride.

TSF: What lessons from your own father have shaped the way you run your business?

CC: Dad was into the service industry for most of his career, and as such he always spoke well and carried himself with respect and pride. That character which he displayed has stuck with me and has literally been the catalyst for how I operate.

TSF: What wardrobe essentials should every father have in his closet?

CC: Dads should always have a black pants, shirt or blazer in their closet. These literally can be worn to any function, and can be the ultimate go-to when you’re not sure what to wear. They keep you ready.

TSF: What are some of the most popular Father’s Day purchases in your store?

CC: Blazers, pants, ties and accessories.

TSF: If you were styling the perfect Father’s Day look, what would it include?

CC: Depending on the event he’s attending it could be shorts and polo shirt, linen outfit or just a nice blazer with pants.

TSF: Single-breasted or double-breasted?

CC: Definitely double-breasted, for me.

CC: Two: My sunglasses and watch.
