3.5 magnitude earthquake felt in parts of Jamaica
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A minor earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale was felt in sections of Jamaica on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Earthquake Unit at the University of the West Indies (UWI).
Preliminary reports indicate that the quake occurred at approximately 4:11 pm and was felt in parts of St Catherine, Kingston and St Andrew.
The epicentre was located about 15 kilometres south of Annotto Bay, St Mary, within the Wagwater Trough North region.
The earthquake had a focal depth of 18 kilometres.
The UWI Earthquake Unit reported that the tremor originated in the Caribbean Sea and was recorded as a local event in Jamaica.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage associated with the earthquake.
